Explanation of Terms
1. Account Number and Scheduled Meter Reading — This is your PPL Account Number. You'll need this number if you contact a customer service representative. You'll also want to include this number on your check when you send us a payment. Your Scheduled Meter Reading date indicates the time we've set to come and read your meter. If your meter is in a limited-access area or if you have an aggressive pet, it's important you keep this date in mind so you can be home to give us access to the meter and/or so you can restrain your pet.
2. Contact Information — This is the number for PPL's Customer Service department. You should call this number if you have any questions or comments on your PPL energy bill. Alternatively, you can write us a letter and contact us at the postal address given here.
3. Customer Charge — Covers the cost for billing, meter reading, underground pipelines and equipment to supply you with gas. This amount is the same each month no matter how much gas you use.
4. State Tax Adjustment Surcharge — A charge on your rates that reflects changes in various state taxes already included in your bill. This allows a utility to recover those changes without filing a base rate proceeding. These taxes can go up or down. This is not the state sales tax.
5. Meter Reading Information — There are three kinds of meter readings:
Actual — A reading we take from your meter.
Estimated — When we are unable to read your meter, we base the charges on the weather and your past use.
Customer — A reading you provided to us.
6. CCF Used — The CCF Used is determined by subtracting the last reading from the present reading. CCF stands for 100 cubic feet of gas.
7. Btu Factor — British Thermal Unit is the amount of heat required to raise the temperature of one pound of water by one degree Fahrenheit. The Btu Factor shown on the front of your bill is based on the average heat content of all of the company's gas supplies. The Btu Factor may change from month to month.
8. DT or Dekatherms — A measure of how much gas you use, determined by heat content. Multiply the CCF Used by the Btu Factor. Both are on the front of the bill.
